Alpha 3.24 State Of The Game – It Has Some Big Issues

The Star Citizen Alpha 3.24 Live build does have some issues…

There have been a load of service disruptions including in game chat & cargo hauling missions not working… there have been a load of hotfixes for these.

They also deployed 2 large set of hotfixes over the last couple of days… There isn’t a wipe or anything in fact CIG said These hotfixes should not affect non-LTP items in game so you will not lose consumables, rentals, refinery jobs, character/hangar customization, and home locations.

31st August Patch

  • PvE Bounty Mission markers are now showing.
  • Elevators buttons should be functioning again at Orison and Space Stations

(Note: The grey panel issue is also fixed internally BUT not deployed in this hotfix build.)

  • Harvestables at Klesher were giving 1 Merit per harvestable instead of the actual value for their type
  • You can now sell Kopion Horn and Marok Gems.
  • Sell orders should now be working and not pending forever.
  • Players weren’t being charged the additional Auto-Loading fee
  • Fixed 3 Hybrid Service Crashes

2nd September Patch

  • Mission cargo crates weren’t appearing in the kiosk at the pick-up location
  • After spawning, pressing <F> would trap the player in bed… super annoying
  • Stor*All containers of all sizes could be retrieved from inventory access kiosks… It’s only supposed to be smaller items.

That’s all now fixed…

I love that CIG have been working over the weekend again to get these patches in better shape… but also it’s partly because they had pushed out a patch with some frustrating issues… some of those issues may have only been exposed during a live deployment tho.

Alpha 3.24 has some massive updates with Cargo, commodity phyiscalization, removal of global inventory, manual loading / unloading, hauling missions, freight elevators… tons of tweaks to the economy, tractor beams… some people don’t like the extra work/faff some people love it.

Players are still having “account” and game breaking issues that are requiring them to do character resets/repairs.

Also there is a cool down on doing that for 24 hours… and with some problems being regularly encountered by players that’s not ideal.

There are a lot of Known Issues and I do want to quickly go over and highlight some:

I’ll link the expanded Known Issues and Workarounds as well as the patch notes below.

For 3.24, Server Crash Recovery will remove all current missions and mark them as abandoned. This behavior is not the intended outcome in the long term and will be changed in an upcoming refactor. This will not reduce reputation when this occurs. This could cause a few trespassing issues in locations like UGFs.

There are several known Vulkan Renderer related GPU crashes currently in the build. If you experience frequent crashes while playing and are on Vulkan, test swapping back to DirectX to see if these still occur.

  • Players are unable to Retrieve Ships from ASOP
  • Shuttles and Trams for all Major Landing Zones can disappear after server recovery.
  • Hull C cargo loads one box and stops loading the rest of cargo mission boxes 
  • Client framerate drops to single digits at ArcCorp Mining Area 157 on Yela
  • Players are still able to reaccept the Intro cargo mission despite being “not eligible”
  • Noticeable streaming issues on the exterior geometry on freight elevators
  • There is a noticeable delay in loading the player’s persistent hangar.
  • Players can be sent back to Klescher after completing “Need An Out” prison escape mission
  • Multiple Active Tractor or Tow beams on the same object can make it float without an active tractor beam on it
  • There is a chance that the HAB elevators do not arrive when called

Ships May Randomly Explode at Low Altitude or Entering Atmosphere

No Vehicle Inventories

Players getting kicked out of hangars

Getting teleported to hospital repeatedly

Broken Elevators – inc Elevators not show up at Spaceport with high traffic and panels not working

Weapons and multitools not functioning

Inventories breaking – inc Moving items will fail when the dragged item transitions between two inventories unless you move the item quickly or kiosk not displaying items

Various Specific Ship Issues

NPCs not moving / Spawning Properly

Some of those issues are pretty major but they are typically pretty inconsistent. You can play for a few hours without experiencing any of them, especially on lower traffic servers.

Server Meshing – Not a Silver Bullet BUT when it comes with 4.0 after some teething issues and optimization I expect some of these issues and AI / NPC derpy-ness to be a thing of the past… but there may well be newer more higher tech problems…
